Sadie & me_edited.jpg

Sadie was the sheep that started it all. She was my 4-H breeding stock project that my parents talked me into. I wasn't enthusiastic about starting another project as a high school teenager but I immediately fell in love with sheep after bringing her home. She thought she was a dog more than a sheep. She even crawled into my lap and laid down when I was sitting in her pen with her.

I've never had a bond with an animal like I did with this sheep. She taught me just how smart sheep are. She recognized my face at the fair during the livestock judging contest when she was randomly selected for the judging. She wasn't happy about being selected but when my group came through for judging she immediately was calm again. The most heartbreaking moment was when she picked my face out of the crowd at the livestock sale when I finally had to sell her.

Sadie was the foundation for my flock in the beginning. I kept two of her ewe lambs that ended up providing me with several lambs over the years. Unfortunately, I no longer have her genetics after the progeny became only males.
